Types of Grief Counseling We Focus On

Christian Grief Counseling

Death & Loss are topics which are best shared with a therapist with a similar spiritual background, beliefs, and ideas. We have numerous therapists of a variety of faiths and backgrounds to meet your spiritual counseling needs. Our Christian Grief Therapists are available for sessions.

Non-Denominational Grief Counseling

Faith is hard to define; our spiritual purpose on this earth is different for everyone, and everyone perceives our world differently. For those with spiritual beliefs that transcend categorization and denomination, we offer grief counseling for those of all faiths and beliefs.

Family & Group Grief Counseling

We grieve together, and families grieve together in a very complex manner. The thoughts, feelings, and emotions surrounding death & loss weigh heavy on the mind, and can bring up or worsen other mental health or anxiety issues. Family Grief Counselors can help your family sort through the intense emotions of this difficult time.

Grief Counseling For the Loss of a Child

We can help you deal with the shock and emotional toll that the loss of a child brings. Our counselors can help you through the difficult road that is grieving for your child. Many parents also face the loss of a child, though the child is still alive. We can also help parents deal with very real child loss grief that comes with losing custody of your children or a separation of family.

Grief Counseling For the Loss of Pets

Some losses just hit harder and dwell longer. Regret and negative emotions often surround the loss of pets and our little extended family members. Loss and grief for pets is important to deal with, as it plays a big role in your overall holistic mental and spiritual health.

Teens Grief Counseling

The concept of life and death is difficult to comprehend at any age, but teens especially are hit hard by grief and loss. Teenage and adolescent years are when young adults are beginning to put-together the concept of the “Real World.” Ideas and emotions are shaped during these formative years; this is why counseling and guiding teens through the stages of grief as they experience them is so important.

What Are The Stages of Grief?

Denial

In the “Denial” phase of grief, which happens very early in the bereavement process, individuals deny that it is happening or will refuse to believe it is true.

Anger

In the “Anger” phase of grief, emotions fire wildly. An individual may be irrationally angry at others or even at the deceased/lost. Anger can also be turned inwardly, and an individual can blame or be angry with oneself in this stage.

Bargaining

In the “Bargaining” phase of grief, an individual feels they are losing or have lost control. They begin to analyze the situation and want or yearn to make changes that cannot be made. “If Only…” is a bargaining statement.

Depression

In the “Depression” phase of grief, an individual is overcome with sadness and symptoms of the emotional toll. A person’s symptoms can range from aches and pains to changes in appetite, sleep, body chemistry and even diet.

Acceptance

In the “Acceptance” phase of grief, overtakes the sadness from the depression stage, and the transition between depression and acceptance is where many individuals get stuck. Grief counselors and therapists are trained to help individuals and families move past the depression stage, into acceptance, and finally on to healing.
